In the context of drug production, airborne contamination control is a crucial step to insure good quality products. A lot of norms and recommendations have been written for international or European standards such as FDA, AFSSAPS, ISO...

Most of the last texts and recommendations encourage the implementation of Rapid Microbiological Methods (RMM) in order to get better and faster results; one of the main goal is to get rid of the long time to results linked to the incubation step necessary with the traditional method (based on cultivability).

Process monitoring in aseptic conditioning zones can be ensured by the Coriolis® µ and also laminar flow hood and isolator controls. Grades A, B, C and D can be monitored with the Coriolis µ air sampler.

It can also be used for decontamination procedure evaluation and will allow the production to start much earlier than with traditional microbiology methods (incubation during several days).

Last but not least this system is a good tool for investigation step : thanks to its liquid sample, rapid results can be performed and thus rapid corrective actions once the source cause and location have been determined; it allows to minimize the time the process need to be stopped because of suspicious contamination See our references in Pharma Industry See our application forms and publications related to cleanrooms and RMM’s

Airborne contamination control is also a critical point in Cosmetic and Food industries as far as the products and production area can be sensitive to specific microbiological contaminants; some specific production requires very strict procedure. We can take the example of cheese factories dealing with specific bacteriophages (LactococcusXXX) which can delay he production if there airborne concentration is too high.

The HACCP method often includes this airborne contamination monitoring for process monitoring in aseptic zones or laminar flow hoods controls and helps defining the critical points and implementing the adapted preventive/corrective actions.

Also dairy and meat industries have to take care of the environment of the zones as far as they are using "live raw materials".

Hospitals are also concerned by the contamination air control and especially because of the direct presence of sensitive patients in these environments(and thus more sensitive to such contaminations).
The Coriolis® µ air sampler is a good tool for pathogens and contamination detection in clean rooms, operating rooms, preparation rooms...

It is also used to help in the nosocomial infections managementand understanding and yields a faster reaction than with impaction method.

Further more several research projects have been launched the last years in French and European hospitals in order to study the airborne viruses: the traditional method did not allow to detect the virus as far as no virus will never grow on an agar plate! The only solution to detect and quantify airborne viruses was the use of filters but Laval Hospital study shows that the Coriolis µ is much more efficient.
